Author’s Note: Below is the third chapter of my book, where I examine how causation applies to consciousness. If you’re still catching up, here is the Preface, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2.
I have only one reservation: This chapter as currently written is too long. The first two chapters were about 5,000 words each, and this one is about 7,000. I think I got a little too carried away with being comprehensive and putting everything in there, which is not what this book is supposed to do. So I’ll come back to this later and look at what I can cut out. (First on the chopping block is Zeno’s Paradox.) But there’s a lot of really interesting material here, so I thought I would post the uncut version for my subscribers.
Please share your suggestions for cuts, and as usual, let me know about any typos you spot. I welcome feedback on the philosophical content, its clarity, and anything you think I got wrong or missed or could have added. (But for this chapter, maybe not the stuff I could add.) If you’re only getting the teaser for this post and want to get more, you know you can always subscribe to support this project and get everything as I write it.
Here’s the chapter.
